Cosmetic surgeries have been part of Bollywood for more than a decade now. The first case of going under the knife that anyone can think of was Sushmita Sen getting breast implants done. She was hounded by the media with questions on why she did it. There were several starlets who followed suit and got breast enhancements. It became a sort of fashion fad for those who were not amply blessed with curves. Rakhi Sawant, one among this brigade, famously told Karan Johar on his TV show, ‘Koffee with Karan’: “What God cannot give, the doctor does!”
It was not always asset enhancement that actresses wanted to have. Many of them got their jaw line fixed; many got a nose job done, while others corrected their chins. Karisma Kapoor morphed from a B-grade heroine to the top bracket superstar with her new look in ‘Raja Hindustani’. Shilpa Shetty, who looked quite nerdy in her debut film ‘Baazigar’, is another star who went under the scalpel and took great strides in her career. Small time actresses like Koena Mitra and Payal Rohatgi, bit the bullet as well. They made a name for themselves as ‘item girls’ only after they had a sufficient amount of cleavage to flaunt.
There are two recent case that struck headlines. One is Kangana Ranaut. She had quite insignificant assets till the other day. She vocally dismissed the suggestion of implants. Suddenly something happened and now she’s all curvy and buxom. You can never rely on the words of an actress when it’s about her physical appearance! Another case in point is Priyanka Chopra. Piggy Chops is doing excellently well in her career but is seems like she was not happy with her nose. So she’s got that fixed. The media got to take a look at the new Priyanka on Salman Khan’s charity initiative, ‘Being Human’.
