One of the most talented directors of Bollywood has thrown a serious allegation against the biggest star of them all, Amitabh Bachchan. Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has accused Senior Bachchan of pulling strings to delay the release of a film that is based on the same subject as the Abhishek Bachchan starrer ‘Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey’. Anurag said that Big B deliberately delayed the other film so that Abhishek’s sagging career gets a dash of oxygen. It’s obvious why Big B would do that, if he did so.
The other film in question is director Sonali Bose’s ‘Chittagong’ on the same subject of the Chittagong uprising against the British. In this film, Manoj Bajpai plays the role of Masterda Surya Sen. Anurag openly declared that this was a far superior film, made with better actors and lots of passion. But because it was a small film that had potential to walk away with the honors, Amitabh Bachchan called up the producers of the film and asked them to hold back. The film was otherwise due to release in October this year.
Now that ‘Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey’ is a flop, there is no other way for Abhishek to look down the barrel. Amitabh’s involvement in this sort of shady dealings puts a bigger question mark over how many other backdoors he had opened for Abhishek. Surely no other personality in Bollywood would dare to come out in the open and talk about this. It takes someone like Anurag Kashyap to do it, because he doesn’t believe in sycophancy.
This is what Anurag Kashyap wrote on a social networking site: “See Chittagong, a far superior film made on the same subject as Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey… At 1/8 th the cost, far superior actors and immense passion… Producers decided to sit on it, because of a phone call from someone, because that someone was trying desperately to save his son’s career… welcome to Bollywood, where whose son you are outshines all the hard work and passion and potential and talent. KHJJS came and went, now what?”
